This paper presents a very cost efficient shunt current measurement solution for fast switching inverters. The general requirements are discussed, different approaches compared and analyzed. The presented measurement technique achieves a suitable bandwidth for grid-tied inverters and can be implemented using the digital to analog converters of standard microcontrollers. No galvanic isolation, accurate sampling ADCs or expensive and bulky components are needed.
