Abstract:
Modern power converters show ever increasing efficiency and frequencies, due to the upcoming of soft-switching and resonant schemes. The measurement of the power losses with current methods like the DPT (double-pulse-test) are approaching their limits as lower power losses result in an increase in the measurement error. This paper introduces a novel and simple method to measure the contribution of each lossy component of a circuit to the overall power losses through multipoint temperature measurements. The efficiency of wide-band gap semiconductor power converters can be estimated with an accuracy of approximately 2 %. The proposed technique can be easily applied to any converter topology.
