Abstract:
It is difficult to optimize the switching performance of IGBTs with a single fixed value of gate resistor. This is especially true if the level of dv/dt during switching needs to be limited, as is the case for typical motor drives, or for applications where the conducted EMI levels need to be limited. This paper will present a simple two-level slew-rate control gate driver IC. The operating benefits for an industrial motor drive in terms of losses, maximum junction temperatures and switching frequency range will be shown.
