              Abstract:
This work addresses the EMI and thermal challenge in a compact AC/DC converter design with highly-integrated power IC. The designed converter, based on flyback topology, aims at achieving high-performance AC/DC power conversion with universal AC input for adapter applications. Special design considerations, including critical components selection and placement on board, are presented to help solve the EMI and thermal problems, which benefit engineering practice on compact converter design. The design is fully compliant with USB Power Delivery (PD) specifications. The presented work is validated by experimental results for a 20 W AC/DC converter with power density of 13.7W/in3.
