Abstract:
Due to the increasing amount of grid-connected power converters because of renewable energy sources the grid characteristics are changing. Without widely used synchronous generators with inherent stability the system stability is reduced which can lead to a higher risk of a blackout. There are scientific studies on the stabilisation of the grid through inverters controlled as virtual synchronous machines. A new strategy for VSG-controlled inverters which allows a black-start and islanding capability of the inverter, and also parallel operation will be presented. Additionally, a microgrid is modelled and used to test and evaluate the developed control strategy in different scenarios.
