Abstract:
Power MOSFETs are and have been the backbone of high power applications for a number of years delivering high current reliably. However, with the advance in power application technology, extremely high levels of currents are being required, forcing designers to implement MOSFETs in parallel. Traditionally MOSFETs are screened and selected based on their threshold voltage to ensure they turn on at the same time. However, screened MOSFETs increase cost and complexity and are susceptible to temperature instability. Dedicated MOSFET technology is therefore better in paralleling applications as it has temperature stability and improved current sharing performance with no added screening process.
