Abstract:
This paper presents simulation results on the magnetic design of a high-frequency isolation transformer using solid insulation. The transformer is intended for auxiliary power supplies in medium-voltage converters. Thus, the coupling capacitance must be limited while ensuring the target self-inductance of the transformer windings. Integration of the converter circuit together with the transformer is investigated by inclusion of the converter ground plane. Furthermore, the effect of including magnetic material and encapsulation on both performance and EMI issued are studies. The case study shows that using magnetic material is preferential for transformer efficiency when measures for shielding of magnetic flux are included.
