Abstract:
This paper presents design approaches for PCB-mounted power chokes with direct heatsink assembly. While conventional power chokes are placed besides the PCB and thus need long connection cables, the presented inductors can be mounted in one step with the semiconductor module allowing for better EMC and cost saving designs. Three designs are presented: one space-optimized, one loss-optimized and one tradeoff between both.
