Easy-to-Scale Paralleling for IGBTs in Renewable Energy Application

Abstract:
In an IGBT paralleling operation, current shar-ing among IGBTs and common mode disturb-ances of gate voltages are key issues. This paper discusses the factors affecting current sharing and describes how to balance the currents between paralleled IGBTs. The document includes a re-view of conventional gate driver solutions for par-alleling operations and introduces a new solution by Power Integrations. The results of a double-pulse test for a parallel arrangement of six IGBTs using Power Integrations’ SCALE-iFlex-Lite driver solution are also shown. The test results show that the SCALE-iFlex-Lite solution achieves good cur-rent sharing, and stable gate voltage.
