Abstract:
This paper analyzes the technological trends of the DC electric vehicle (EV) charger. It introduces the current status of silicon carbide (SiC) devices and their advantages, as well as Infineon SiC technology development. A three-phase, Vienna power factor correction (PFC) solution for unidirectional chargers, a B6 topology, and a full-SiC device solution for bi-directional chargers are introduced, which are widely used in DC EV charger applications. In conclusion, we compare the PFC solutions in terms of efficiency and cost, based on Infineon products, and present a design guide for PFC parts for both unidirectional and bi-directional charger applications.
