Abstract:
Bus queuing is a common phenomenon, especially in the Central Business District. The paper studies bus stops with tandem berths, and proposes calculation models for the maximum bus discharge flow. And cellular automata models are constructed to verify the model reliability. Analytical models are formulated to predict how bus discharge flows from busy stops are affected by berth configurations. The models predict that variations in bus service time tend to diminish stop capacity for multi-berth configurations. This finding speaks to the number of berths to be deployed at bus stops when the value of service-time expectations and variations change within a limited range.
