Abstract:
The current long time through airport security is a concern for air passengers and other stakeholders. In response, the United States Transport Security Administration (TSA) has invested increasing man power and material resources to reduce waiting time of passengers. However, the impact of this investment is not well understood, necessitating the development in this paper of retention and waiting time models with a case study of the current US airport security process. Firstly, the retention model is used to explore passenger flow rate of every zone. After using the principle of thermodynamic entropy to explain the rationality of the model, this paper identifies the bottlenecks of the whole security zone and determine the problems in the current process from the macro and micro point of view. Secondly, the regression variance model is used to modify the current security process, to further verify the bottleneck of the security inspection process. For the case study, the results show that the scan time in items checking zone (zone B) has the greatest impact on passenger waiting time, zone B is the bottleneck area of airport security inspection. Finally, some recommendations are put up with by the above model.
