Abstract:
As the main component of transmission lines, insulators play an important role in supporting power lines and electrical insulation. There are many types and large numbers of insulators. Since insulators are generally erected outdoors, they are very susceptible to the influence of natural weather, the structure and manufacturing process of the insulator, and the influence of human factors. Inevitably, there will be various problems such as insulator string exploded by itself, insulator cracks, and insulator contamination, making it difficult for transmission lines to ensure safe and stable operation. Therefore, power lines should be inspected regularly to find insulator defects, damage and potential safety hazards of other power components in time. Technicians shall repair or replace the damaged components in time to ensure the safe and stable operation of the power line. This paper describes the types of insulator defects, their causes, and the detection methods of insulator defects. Due to the obvious advantages of aviation inspection method and robot inspection method, inspection image can be combined with image processing technology, vision technology and artificial intelligence to identify and analyze defects, which has become a research hotspot.
