Abstract:
Procedural terrain generation remains the best if not only option for large scale world building. This paper presents a new method to create procedural terrain by employing Orometry and noise adapted interpolation. Orometry defines user controls over for generated mountains and ridges which are kept as a sparse representation of the terrain. A heightmap for the terrain is created with interpolation methods borrowed from popular noise algorithms. The result is a faster Orometric based terrain synthesis method that creates mountainscapes based on different real world orometric distributions. It is faster than previous Orometric methods and given results are more plausible than standard noise -based terrains.
