Abstract:
In this paper, the comprehensive design of a 75 kW high efficiency air-cooled grid-tied inverter is presented. Low-inductance 1.7 kV silicon carbide (SiC) modules are utilized in this design. Digital gate drivers (DGD) are adopted to mitigate the voltage overshoot and ringing by softening the turn-off transients, such that the tradeoff between the converter efficiency and switching performance can be addressed. Extensive tests on DGD were performed to determine the optimal operating point. Continuous load tests were conducted on an experimental prototype with switching frequency at 10 kHz, 20 kHz and 30 kHz. The recorded peak efficiency is 99.4%. Detailed design processes, including the thermal modeling and analysis, DGD design and tuning, and comprehensive experimental validation are presented in this paper.
