Abstract:
A zero voltage switched Class E2 wireless power transfer system utilizing self-resonant antisymmetric planar coils (APC) is proposed for the biomedical application, e.g. for battery charging of implants. The system provides high efficient operation by achieving optimum Class E operating conditions for the active switching device independent of the transferred power, battery voltage and magnetic coupling. Consisting of only a single semiconductor, choke inductor, shunt capacitor and APC on each transmission side, without the need of additional compensation circuits, a setup with reduced circuit complexity and improved reliability is given. Experimental validation of a built up prototype, calculations based on a developed model and simulations confirm the preferable performance.
