Extending output power of unified AC input light industrial applications by SiC MOSFET

Abstract:
A unified platform of single- and 3-phase AC input for light industrial applications can be achieved by keeping DC link voltage at 540 V, and using SiC power MOSFET and diode in PFC stage. Commercial fridge inverter application at 5.25kW can be realized by using 30 mOmega SiC MOSFET in PFC stage. By mitigating the thermal bottleneck at PFC SiC MOSFET with low RDS(on) MOSFET, output power can be extended to 7 kW for commercial air conditioner application by using PFC SiC MOSFET with RDS(on) of 14 mOmega, 7 mOmega or a parallel connection of two 30 mOmega devices.
