Abstract:
Signal bandwidth is one of the important parameters of a millimeter wave planet landing radar (MwPLR). This paper proposes a fast bandwidth design method for MwPLR. The design method considers three main types of factors affecting the range accuracy, including thermal noise ranging error, terrain undulation error and range quantization error. And the signal bandwidth design is carried out quickly by solving a system of cubic equations, which is suitable for computeraided automatic design implementation. This method has been successfully applied in the design of Mars landing radar, which has helped China's Tianwen-1 Mars rover land successfully on Mars in May 2021.
