Abstract:
Recently in a power converter system using renewable energy sources, increasing output power capability by higher system operating voltage is being required with minimum hardware/software design effort. Considering the upper limit of operation voltage increase of DC1500 V by regulation of the low voltage directive, which is the evaluation standard for equipment safety, an IGBT module of a novel voltage class of 2000 V is proposed. The requirements from the renewable energy converter system such as high-capacity photovoltaics inverter (PVI) and wind power generator (WPG) are explained. Furthermore, power loss dissipation under assumed inverter operation conditions is particularly studied. Using prototyped water cooler dedicated for LV100 package structure, the thermal feasibility is verified.
