Abstract:
This article analyzes and compares four different types of comparators. Strong Arm latch (SA latch) mainly have an excellent presentation in offset calibration. However, when increasing capacitor to minimize the noise, delay will rise in SA latch. The problems that SA latch needs a large headroom, and it is heavily affected by the kickback noise are solved by Dynamic Bias comparator. The comparator with Floating Inverting Amplifier (FIA) is based on the Dynamic Bias one, which means it has better performance, while it consumes larger chip area. This structure not only solves the dependence on input common-mode voltage of comparator, but also further reduce energy consumption compared with Dynamic Bias comparator. In addition to these three traditional comparators, EPC can greatly reduce the energy consumption of the comparator in crude comparison, thus improving energy efficiency.
