Abstract:
When light is transmitted in optical fiber, it will produce transmission loss, which mainly includes three categories: absorption loss, scattering loss and radiation loss. For single-mode fiber, when the fiber has been prepared, its absorption loss and scattering loss have been determined, and the radiation loss is mainly affected by the degree of bending. Therefore, the bending loss mechanism of single-mode fiber can be applied to optical fiber sensing. In this paper, the macro bending loss mechanism of single-mode fiber is studied based on D. Marcuse's "straight waveguide equivalent method". The bending loss of single-mode fiber is simulated and analysed by COMSOL simulation software. The law that the bending loss of single-mode fiber decreases with the increase of bending radius and core radius is obtained. The bending loss of five single-mode fibers is measured experimentally to verify the conclusion that the bending loss of singlemode fiber decreases with the increase of bending radius and core radius.
