Abstract:
Since the power-frequency overvoltages can have a great impact on the safe operation of the submarine cable transmission system, it is necessary to calculate the overvoltages that may occur under actual situations. In this study, PSCAD (EMTDC) is used to calculate the power-frequency overvoltages of the submarine cable transmission system of the offshore oil-gas field group located near Liaoning Province. Under the conditions considered in this study, the maximum power-frequency overvoltage occurs in the case of single-phase fault earthing at the submarine cable joint in L4, which is 1.134 p.u. The result meets the limit of relevant regulations for the 220 kV transmission system, indicating that the submarine cable transmission system can operate safely and effectively, which can provide important guiding significance for the construction and operation of the system.
