Abstract:
Previous efforts to reduce CO2 emissions in the electricity sector have concentrated primarily on the energy supply part. Serving consumers is tied to the operation of a stable power distribution infrastructure and requires the provision of ancillary services. To achieve CO2 minimization in the overall system, these ancillary services must also be considered. A so far rarely used option for energy supply as well as for the provision of ancillary services is the controlled adaptation of consumption behavior. This paper examines the effects of flexibility in the industrial sector on CO2 emissions and procurement costs for a sectoral-coupled energy system in a region of Germany in 2050. As a guideline for CO2-minimal operation, a control signal is defined, which addresses gridserving behavior for different time horizons. Simulation results are performed by numerical case studies for both a natural gas-dependent and a natural gas-independent energy system.
