Abstract:
The contributions of quantum technologies to future networks have become one focus point of engineering research in the advent of efforts to overcoming limitations in current network infrastructures. One proposal for using quantum methods in future networks is entanglement-assisted data transmission. In this line of work, the simulation of the functionalities of proposed quantum links under realistic traffic patterns has become a bottleneck to the research. With this work we propose a simulation tool, Discrete Traffic Simulator (GODTS), for the performance evaluation of communication links using the method to Generate Entanglement while Idle (GEWI), and accelerate data transmission using the generated entanglement later. GO-DTS is written as a tool for analyzing generic real-world traffic data. In this work, we demonstrate its performance under self-similar traffic and heavy-tailed burst traffic. We display the parameter regions where the GEWI link outperforms a hypothetical purely classical communication link not utilizing shared entanglement.
