Abstract:
This paper investigates an angular diversity receiver for Visible Light Positioning (VLP) to extract position-related information from the measured light intensities. The receiver consists of a truncated pyramid with photodiodes mounted on each face. We analyse the dimensions of the receiver to ensure that it remains compact and suitable for use in mobile devices, and determine the field of view (FOV) of the receiver. Furthermore, we derive the optimal slope of the pyramid to effectively capture light intensities from multiple sources and to enhance positioning accuracy, guided by the Cramér-Rao lower bound on the mean-squared positioning error. The results show that the proposed receiver is compact, has a 180Grad FOV, and is able to achieve centimetre-level positioning accuracy.
