Abstract:
Accurate assessment of inverter modulation effects, and especially the associated machine losses, is of crucial importance for electric drive development. This work presents a novel method providing detailed insights into modulation impacts on electrical machines. The modelling approach is measurementbased, straight-forward, simple, and flexible to use. Due to the high bandwidth of the characterization, losses caused by parasitic machine capacitances and their influence on the driving cycle, previously neglected due to limitations in conventional measurement bandwidth, are included. With the introduction of higher battery voltages, these high-frequency losses are becoming increasingly important and must be taken into account for accurate driving cycle loss predictions.
