Abstract:
In this paper a complete 8.0 kW AC/DC power supply unit (PSU) for Artificial Intelligence (AI) server and datacenter applications is discussed, addressing design considerations and experimental results. The proposed design is demonstrated to achieve 97.5% peak and 96.5% full-load efficiency at 230 VAC (including fan power consumption) by deploying wide-bandgap (WBG) semiconductors in state-of-the-art power conversion topologies. The PSU fits within a standard 1U rack shelf with outer dimensions of 40 mm x 73.5 mm x 450 mm including chassis, achieving a power density of 100 W/in3 for the full PSU. In the specified dimensions, the PSU meets also other critical server specifications such as the 20 ms hold-up time requirement, in-rush and re-rush current limitations.
