Abstract:
In solar and wind energy applications power modules are exposed to harsh weather conditions for extended periods of time. These conditions have always been a reason for premature end of life in power modules. New generations of power modules utilizing the advantages of organic isolation foil, have shown to be even more sensitive to these fault mechanisms, especially high humidity. This challenges developers to engineer new capabilities to protect power electronics utilizing these technologies. In this paper a top coating is analyzed and evaluated as a measure against humidity.
