Abstract:
Coupled inductors are a promising approach for improving power electronic systems. Depending on the application, it can make sense to use two different core materials in one coupled inductor. This paper presents a corresponding design approach of a combined coupled magnetic component for an interleaved boost converter. Simulative comparisons to alternative design approaches as well as cores made of a single material are shown. The advantages of two core materials in terms of volume and efficiency are highlighted. The functionality of the presented design approach is verified by measurements.
