Abstract:
In this paper, a compact design of a transformer for a resonant isolated DC/DC converter for a high power (180 kW) medium voltage DC grid (±1.5 kV) charging system for electric vehicles (EVs) is presented. A customized core geometry was developed in order to be able to implement the given specifications in a single magnetic component instead of having to use a parallel connection of several transformers. Due to the switching frequency used in the topology, ferrite was selected as the core material. The transformer design presented as well as its cooling system is verified by simulations and measurements.
