Abstract:
State space controllers can be a useful solution to implement voltage control in dc-to-dc converters. With pole placement the control dynamics can be adjusted to meet predefined requirements. However, the plant dynamics have considerable influence on the control response behavior. In this work two converters are compared, the conventional Boost converter and the tristate-modified-Boost converter. As a fair criterion, both control systems are adjusted in such a way that the closed loop systems have identical poles. It is shown that under these circumstances the tristate-modified-Boost converter operates with improved control dynamics, compared with the conventional Boost converter.
