Abstract:
With Germany's Federal Climate Action Act targeting net greenhouse gas neutrality by 2045, the role of direct current (DC) grids in enhancing energy efficiency and integrating renewable energy sources becomes increasingly significant. Through a comprehensive online survey and targeted interviews of current users, this study investigates the state of DC technology adoption in the German industrial sector, addressing the challenges and opportunities ahead. The results highlight the critical gap in practical expertise and regulatory support. While the adoption of DC systems is limited, there is considerable potential for growth and application thanks to the advantages of DC grids. This paper presents the survey and interview results and discusses the implications for industry stakeholders and policymakers, with the goal of a broader implementation of DC technology in Germany.
