Abstract:
Production with 650 V DC grids have demonstrated to save significant amount of electric energy by re-using the braking power of electric motor drives. Lighting is the main baseload in industrial production and therefore the best suited application to make use of this breaking power from dynamically operated motor drives and robots. The combination of electronic controlled motor drives and lighting on one DC grid has the result that factories purchase less electricity from electricity suppliers and save cost. The amount of energy saved depends on the dynamics of electric motor operation and the value of regained electric energy from motor braking operation. Signify has developed an LED driver and a first luminaire family to be seamlessly integrated by professional customers into more energy efficient factories using 650 V DC power systems.
