Abstract:
The risk of congestions in modern distribution grids increases with the expansion of decentralized loads and feed-ins. This paper proposes the extension of an agent-based, discrete-event simulation framework by an automatic and modular congestion management that can be used for various use cases. These include analyzing the temporal and spatial occurrences of different types of congestions, as well as the grid’s capability to mitigate them. To achieve the latter, the congestion detection can be paired up with different combinations of mitigation measures. The capabilities of the proposed congestion management are demonstrated using a multi-voltage level grid. Three simulations are carried out to test the congestion detection and mitigation with different configurations of tap-changeable transformers. These show that congestions are correctly detected and mitigated by the most suitable transformers.
