Abstract:
The energy transition drives the need for modernizing electricity grids and expanding communication networks. Powerline Communication (PLC) offers a cost-effective solution by using existing distribution network lines for signal transmission. Accurate modeling of high-frequency transmissionline parameters is essential for optimizing PLC networks. This study introduces a laboratory method to measure and model power cable parameters for frequencies between 1 MHz and 40 MHz. The derived parameters are validated through a network comprising two different power cables with a branch, comparing measured results with simulations in a PLC planning tool. The findings confirm the accuracy of the transmission-line modeling, highlighting its applicability for PLC network design. This work supports the modernization of the gridof the grid and the integration of renewable energy, contributing to the energy transition.
