Abstract:
The USB-C power delivery (USB-PD) technology gained significant importance in the recent times for fast-charging and data transfer since its introduction in 2014 after the European Union (EU) mandated the use of Type-C ports to reduce e-waste. The latest advancement in USB power delivery (PD) technology is Extended Power Range (EPR) delivering 140W, 180W and 240W of output power. The market does not yet offer a form factor Extended Power Range (EPR) USB-PD in high voltage Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV). Conventional method uses t wo sequential power conversion stages to step down from 48V to USB-PD. Infineon has repurposed the existing power adapter (PAGS) product for the use DC-DC power conversion. This paper presents the use of the PAG2S product as a single-stage solution with Buck topology, eliminating the use of a pre-regulator and supporting an integrated Extended Power Range (EPR) up to 140W (28V output 5A load current) of output power for any desired input voltage. PAG2S supports PD 3.2 SPR and 28 V EPR configurable switching frequency, Integrated CV-CC error amplifier for USB-PD, Programmable Power supply (PPS), adjustable voltage supply (AVS) specifications.
