Abstract:
Axial flux limited-angle torque machine (AF-LATM) has a wide range of applications like servo systems, fuel injection control in IC engines, etc. A spring arrangement is attached to its rotor, which can limit the rotation by providing a restoring torque. Estimating the spring constant, torque, rotation angle as a function of current, etc., is required to evaluate the performance. Literature related to the simulating the transient response for these machines is limited. Most of the published work deals with the calculation of steady state torque as a function of angular position. The objective of this work is to develop a methodology to estimate the above-mentioned parameters using a time-stepping Finite Element Method (FEM) and dimension the spring connected to the rotor.
