Abstract:
A proper magneto-mechanical characterization of magnetic shape memory (MSM) alloys is an essential precondition for designing and modeling MSM drive systems. Typical setups measure the mechanical response depending on the applied field or a punctually measured fringe field although the meaning of these data is limited. The present paper investigates measurement results obtained in a novel magneto-mechanical test procedure with regard to their thermodynamical consistency and their transferability to other problems. The good data validity indicates that the chosen approach of component-level characterization is appropriate.
