Abstract:
The demand of rapid and robust diagnostic tools in clinical and non-clinical environments has boosted the use of Point of Care Devices (POC) for measurement and control of a wide spectrum of health parameters and related therapeutic decisions. We have developed a paper-based POC device to be used for amitriptyline (AMT) measurement in serum. We designed a nitrocellulose test strip, structured with channels by femtosecond laser ablation which conduct the sample into the reaction zones. The very small size of the AMT molecule requires microfluidic circuits for binding inhibition test which are more complex than assays used in typical lateral flow tests. The aim of this work is, first, to determine suitable laser scan procedures allowing to adjust the local energy distributions and second, to develop a stripe design for a controlled fluid transport without crosstalk between the microchannels.
