Abstract:
The versatile field of applications of quantum-optical sensors, e.g. inertial navigation or fundamental physics experiments, in field and space put stringent requirements on the corresponding lasers. To meet the demand for compact, low weighted, robust and energy efficient laser modules, we make use of hybrid micro-integration technology and GaAs based laser diodes to realize laser modules providing an emission wavelength of 630 nm to 1150 nm, an optical output power of up to 1 W, and a linewidth of smaller than 100 kHz. We present an extended cavity diode laser master-oscillator-power-amplifier (ECDL-MOPA) for rubidium spectroscopy suitable for operation on a sounding rocket or in space. The laser module’s form factor and mass correspond to 12.5 x 7.5 x 2.3 cm3 and 750 g.
