Abstract:
This paper presents a novel Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) testbed designed to evaluate the real-time performance, power consumption, and energy efficiency of wired and wireless devices. The escalating power consumption of telecommunications infrastructure requires the development of more energy-efficient network technologies. Our TSN testbed incorporates several TSN standards and features two IPMS 1 Gbit/s full-duplex endpoints with bidirectional communication, a traffic generator, and measurement devices, allowing for analysis under different bandwidths and frame sizes. Experiments show that the wired Ethernet link latency is as low as 5.2 mus for small frames. Very low latency wireless links based on light fidelity (Li-Fi) maintain nearly the same low latency inside the TSN network, which was not achieved with other wireless devices before. Furthermore, power consumption measurements on the switched endpoints indicate a range from 5.9 W to 7.3 W. This study provides critical data for future energy-saving network technologies and proves the TSN testbed's suitability for testing wired and wireless devices within a TSN network environment.
