DIN EN 60987 (VDE 0491-3-1) covers digital systems hardware for Class 1 and Class 2 systems as derived from the safety categories of the realized functions according to DIN EN 61513 (VDE 0491-2). This also includes multiprocessor distributed systems and single processor systems; it covers the assessment and use of pre-developed items, for example, commercial off-the-shelf items (COTS), and the development of new hardware.
