In most of these cases, it is not possible to identify or distinguish the different radionuclides constituting a surface contamination, and the evaluation of such a contamination can only be made on a qualitative basis. Instead of using instruments with nuclide specific calibrations, instruments which are fit for such a purpose have to be used.
