The standard is applicable to nuclear power plant instrumentation and control systems important to safety and their cabling. It is aimed for satisfying the basic requirements of DIN EN 61513 (VDE 0491-2) because this separation is needed to prevent or minimize the impact on safety that could result from propagation of faults and failures of systems, sub-systems or components.
