This part of IEC 62271 applies to prefabricated metal-enclosed switchgear and controlgear assemblies designed: - for alternating current; - with rated voltages above 1 kV and up to and including 52 kV; - for service frequencies up to and including 60 Hz; - for indoor and outdoor installation; - with pressurised compartments, if any, either with design pressure lower than or equal to 300 kPa (relative pressure) or designed and tested to the pressure withstand requirements of IEC 62271-203. For components and switching functions installed in a metal-enclosed switchgear and controlgear, this standard supplements or even replaces in some cases, the requirements as stated by the individual product standards.
