The VDE guideline contains provisions for the connection of buildings and homes to optical fibre networks for broadband communication with data rates exceeding or equal to 100 MBit/s. The topology of the cabling system and the required functional elements of the infrastructure of the building or site have been specified independent of a particular technology. This enables several system operators to use this infrastructure independent of each other applying different technologies of optical transmission systems.
