Road traffic signal systems

Digital signaling in the context of cooperative systems

Class/Status: Anwendungsregel, valid
Released: 2022-12
VDE Art. No.: 0800850

This VDE application guide is to be applied for digital messages that are transmitted by radio within the context of cooperative systems of road traffic signal systems (SVA) as a reproduction of conventional optical signals. The aim is to ensure the reliability of the digital signals and to deactivate only the digital signals in the event of a traffic-related conflict in accordance with DIN EN 12675 and RiLSA, i.e. the non-availability of digital signals does not lead to the shutdown of the entire SVA.
Acoustic and tactile equipment for blind and visually impaired people at road traffic signal systems (SVA) according to DIN 32981 do not require a separate illustration as digital signaling, since the legal obligation in the Road Traffic Regulations is given exclusively for the optical signals. If the signaling of the acoustic and tactile equipment is also sent as digital messages, the same safety requirements apply as for the digital mapping of the conventional optical signals.
