This VDE guideline is the first part of a series of VDE guidelines for the further education and training of personnel in broadband expansion. It describes the module on the fundamentals of fibre optic technology, which is the basis for specialisation modules based on it. It also specifies the procedure for the training and further training of personnel used in the area of network levels 3 (civil engineering) and 4 (house transfer points with the private house distribution networks and computer centres behind them) and the associated fibre-optic systems.
