This part of IEC 61960 specifies performance tests, designations, markings, dimensions, and other requirements for lithium secondary button cells and batteries for portable applications, watches, and backup power supply such as memory backup applications. Annex A specifies specific requirements for watches. This document provides purchasers and users of lithium coin secondary cells and batteries with a set of evaluation criteria for use in determining the performance of lithium coin secondary cells and batteries from various manufacturers. This document establishes the minimum performance level required and establishes a standardized procedure for conducting the tests and communicating the results of those tests to the user. This enables users to determine the usability of commercially available cells and batteries based on the specified specification and thus select the cell or battery that is best suited for the intended application. In this document, lithium secondary button cells and batteries for a range of chemical compounds are covered. Each electrochemical pair has a characteristic voltage range over which it releases its electrical capacity during discharge, a characteristic nominal voltage, and a characteristic end-of-discharge voltage. Users of lithium secondary button cells and batteries are are encouraged to consult the manufacturer. This document also contains a guide for designers of equipment using lithium batteries (see Appendix B).
