Inhalt:
Unlike fluoride glass fibers, plastic fibers, crystal sapphire fibers or chalcogenide fibers, photonic fibers are made of silica. The manufacturing technology being compatible with standard silica fibers, one can predict to see some current telecom fibers suppliers launching such a product in the near future. The expected advantages of PCFs are capacity for much higher laser intensity guiding, larger core area, single-mode propagation over a wide wavelength range, high bending resistance, low or zero chromatic dispersion, high numerical aperture, and also the possibility to transmit wavelengths over 2 microns.
